2012 Big Draw Project – Luminosity!

The Whitworth’s Big Draw event this year was inspired by Jane and Louise Wilson’s stunning visuals, video and sculpture installations that are placed around the Gallery. Using iPads and ‘short throw’ projectors, participants were invited to take pictures of one another and then, using iPad apps and software, distort, paint and project their outcomes back onto frames for all to see. A big focus played off the ‘face recognition’ installation and the resulting outcomes were very striking indeed! The Big Draw team had set this years theme as ‘lines’. We made 12 of our very own ‘yard sticks’ that tied in nicely to the exhibition and then set the task of using nothing more that the yard sticks for mark making asking the questions ‘what lines do you see around the Gallery?’ Thank you to Sarah Sanders and the Visitor Services team for making this weekend a fun and exploratory space for all visitors. The atmosphere was very playful, we hope all who came down had as much fun as we did.
