On Friday 26 April, we took a group of young people to Hyperlink at the Tate Modern, which was curated by the Gallery’s young peoples group called Tate Collective. Hyperlink was a three-day festival of art, music and fashion in the Tanks and Turbine Hall at Tate Modern.
The festival launched Circuit, which is a networking opportunity for young people aged 15 – 25 at all the following 8 organisations who will work together as Circuit partners: Tate London; Tate Liverpool; Tate St Ives; and five national partners including the Whitworth Art Gallery. Circuit has 4 distinct, interrelated strands of activity: live art festivals, peer-led projects, sustained outreach work, and a digital microsite.
The Whitworth’s young people were from Sale Grammar School and The Manchester College and studying a range of courses from Art & Design, Philosophy and Politics. They took part in workshops led by street artist Artista, where they developed quirky illustrations, which were projected large through an i-pad paint programme. See the results below.
This is exciting times for the young people at the Whitworth. All participants who visited Hyperlink were fired up by the potential for activities in Manchester and had loads of ideas for a live art festival. Watch out for Circuit at the Whitworth this Spring…
