As part of work experience at the Whitworth Gallery, we are involved in all aspects of the gallery; whether that be working with outside groups that come into the gallery or working behind the scenes.
On Tuesday we started the day off by thinking of ideas for a year 9 workshop that would be taking place next week. Working with the samples created by various local textile artist from the textile handling resource pack, ‘Textile too’, we thought of different activities.
We worked as a team to collaborate together all of our ideas, which ended in us creating four different activities per artist. These ideas ranged from creative writing tasks to sensory analysis of the sample work. At times it was difficult as we had to make sure the suggestions were appropriate for the age group; whislt still encouraging the students to think outside of the box when answering questions.
In the afternoon we worked in the textile archive. This involved us working in a tactile manner with the materials as we had to do a number of tasks to prepare them for storage. As a group we found this extremely interesting as we saw first hand what working in a gallery involved.
