Baby Explorers (Manchester Museum) and Art Baby (Whitworth Art Gallery) were out and about again last week, giving us the opportunity to engage with new parents and young children in very different spaces!
On Tuesday 2nd and Thursday 4th July we were at Manchester Children’s Hospital Outpatients Department as part of our museums and galleries week, Cultureshots. This is a week long series of events across the 5 hospitals making up the Central Manchester Hospitals Trust, offering health professionals and patients the opportunity to engage with cultural activities and improve well being.
We had lots of fun with children and parents who were able to spend time exploring our sensory play (between appointments – a challenge!) and had an 8 year old girl who played alongside her younger sibling, completely engaged on a very imaginative journey. Sensory play isn’t just for babies!
The sessions also gave us the opportunity to begin developing contacts and relationships with the play workers and their managers at the children’s hospital, which will hopefully lead to more exciting opportunities for working in partnership in the future.
We also made an appearance over the weekend at the Manchester Mela celebrations at Platt Fields Park, as part of the family activities programme offered by the Museum and Whitworth Art Gallery – accompanied by incredibly beautiful and hot weather.
