An exciting new chapter for the Early Years Programme

Although the Whitworth is now temporarily closed to make way for its redevelopment work the Learning and Engagement team continue to beaver away! Over the next year you will find us popping up here, there and everywhere around Manchester, running events and workshops and trialling new ideas.

The Early Years Programmes (Art Baby and Toddlertastic) both have new temporary homes for the Autumn term.

Space is a really important part of all of our programmes, but particularly the Early Years programme. The gallery spaces at the Whitworth, where the Early Years sessions are held, are huge spaces where babies and young children can explore every nook and cranny, perfect their crawls and their toddles and exercise their vocal chords. The spaces are open, airy, non cluttered and packed full of inspiring artworks and objects, helping to create a relaxed and inspiring vibe for both children and parents/ carers. So it was hugely important to find temporary venues that could emulate these features.

Art Baby is designed to stimulate all baby’s senses, not only through the sensory play environments that are created, but also through the live musicians who facilitate the sessions.
The Bridgewater Hall, as our host venue, made perfect sense. Not only a venue that can provide the huge, inspiring, open and light spaces we were looking for but also a venue where music is at the heart of what it does. While Whitworth is closed it is an opportunity to trial and explore new things, an opportunity therefore to work with Bridgewater to experiment with and develop the music and sound side of Art Baby.

As Toddlertastic uses art, music, dance and drama to engage its under 5s audience we were keen to find a venue that could support and develop all of these art forms. Z-arts is a vibrant space in the heart of the Hulme community and has a plethora of great spaces and great practitioners that we can draw upon. Our Drama sessions will take place in the huge 230 seat theatre, dance in the dance studio, art in the gallery and music in the music room. A great opportunity for young children and their adults to experience and explore new and exciting spaces in a fun and supportive way.

With these exciting new partnerships an exciting new chapter is just beginning for our programmes, so watch this space for new developments!
